banyan golf club
There’s a reason this 18-hole masterpiece just 20 minutes from town center was voted the ‘Best New Course in Asia’ by Asian Golf Monthly readers in 2009: It’s as good as golf gets, full stop. Opened in late 2008, the exquisitely maintained track sits in a mostly-enclosed, bucolic bowl without a home or resort in sight. But it's the layout’s routing that keeps players coming back - most holes feature pineapple patches, bougainvillea beds and, of course, Banyan trees.
The clubhouse is a big draw, too. Situated on the highest part of the property, it offers stunning vistas - especially at sunset - of the Burmese Mountains. If your playing partners don't allow you any do-overs during your round, take solace at the club's comfy watering hole, Mulligans, where you're encouraged to have another.
Sea Of Distraction:The short, par-3 15th is anything but a bargain - stunning views of Koh Sai in the distance, coupled with a shallow green guarded in front by a deep sand trap, test anyone's mettle. |
